Toshiba unveils its new MKxx39GSL series, the industry’s first 1.8-inch hard drive with low-insertion force (LIF) Serial ATA (SATA) connectors. The new line is available in 160GB (MK1639GSL), 200GB (MK2039GSL) and 220GB (MK2239GSL) capacities, and the 220GB model is the largest capacity, 5mm-profile, single-platter hard disk drive available in this ultra small form factor.
Using the LIF SATA connector, the MKxx39GSL has a 10 percent smaller footprint compared to standard 1.8-inch drives using microSATA connectors. The series runs at 4200RPM with 16MB buffer and operates quietly at 14 decibels at idle and 15 decibels at seek.
